What Makes Curious Perro Curious?

Curiosity has a funny way of turning an ordinary road trip into an adventure.

I might see a historic building, hear a strange story about a small Texas town, discover a song with an unexpected history, stumble across an old roadside attraction, or see a photograph of somewhere I’ve never been—and suddenly I want to know more.

Who built it? Why is it there? What happened here? What makes this place special? And perhaps most importantly…what would it be like to experience it for myself?

That’s where Curious Perro begins.

🐾 More Than Just Checking Places Off a Map

Curious Perro isn’t about racing from one famous attraction to another just to say I’ve been there. I’m interested in the stories behind the places.

From the small towns and wide-open spaces of Texas, to the rugged landscapes of Arizona, to the colorful streets, mountains and communities of Colombia, I like to slow down and look around.

I want to know what makes a place tick.

Sometimes that means digging into history before I ever leave home. Sometimes it means finding a local restaurant, walking a neighborhood, talking with people, listening to a musician on a street corner, or simply wandering around to see what I discover.

And sometimes…

the place turns out to be nothing like I expected.

Those surprises are often the best part.

🔎 The Curiosity Comes First

One of the things that makes Curious Perro different is that the adventure doesn’t necessarily begin when I arrive.

It can begin weeks before the trip.

I research the history. I look at the people and events that shaped a community. I search for the unusual stories, the forgotten places and the things that might not show up on a typical tourist itinerary.

Then I go there.

And that’s when the research meets reality.

Maybe something I read about turns out to be fascinating. Maybe it isn’t nearly as interesting as I expected. Maybe I discover something completely different that nobody mentioned.

That’s the fun of exploring.

You don’t always know what you’re going to find.

🌎 I Want to See Places Through More Than My Own Eyes

Travel is also about people.

A community isn’t just its buildings, landmarks and history. It’s the people who live there and the way they see their hometown.

That’s something I want to explore more with Curious Perro—getting beyond the postcard version of a destination and discovering what locals love about where they live.

What’s the restaurant they recommend?

What’s the story everyone knows?

What’s the place visitors usually miss?

What makes them proud of their community?

And what would they tell a curious stranger to go see?

That’s the kind of information you can’t always find in a guidebook.

📚 Curiosity Doesn’t Stop When the Trip Ends

Every adventure leaves me with more questions.

That’s one of the reasons I enjoy researching history, music, culture and the people connected to the places I visit. A song can tell you something about a generation. An old building can tell you about a town’s rise and fall. A roadside sign can lead to a story that goes back more than a century.

Sometimes the smallest discovery opens the door to the biggest story.

And those are the stories I want to share.
