Welcome back to Curious Perro. In this article we are visiting Pueblito Paisa, a replica of a turn of the century town in Antioquia Colombia. It has the traditional cobblestone square with a centered water fountain and, of course, the town church.
Located in the center of the Aburrá Valley sits Cerro Nutibara (Nutibara Hill). On top, we find the Pueblito Paisa, which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Medellín.
The city of Medellin purchased the 81-acre property in 1927 with the intent to build a recreation park. Instead, it was decided to take advantage of the spectacular view to create a nod to the rich Paisa history and traditional way of life.
Many of the materials used in the construction of this venue came from salvaged homes from the El Peñol- Guatapé
area where a manmade lake was formed. In fact, the wooden altar of the white church dates to the 1920s
Pueblito Paisa officially opened on March 3, 1978.
Located onsite is a Sculpture of Indigenous Tribe Chief “Cacique Nutibara”
In December, Pueblito Paisa is decorated with Christmas lights as part of Los Alumbrados Christmas lights in Medellín.
