I went up to Wickenburg this Saturday for the first time this fall and was very impressed with the new look of the facilities. As usual the team roping event was fun to watch and moved along with precision. But with the expansion and improvements to the spectators’ area, this place has become a better destination for fans, families as well as the casual observer.
Rancho Rio is home to the National Team Roping tour along with the NTR National Finals held each year in March.
Rancho Rio is located on 55 acres just minutes from downtown Wickenburg, Arizona. It is also a little bit more than 1 hours drive from downtown Phoenix. Begin with construction in 2012 with several additional phases of construction since: the facility boasts 50 RV spaces, 138 covered stalls, outdoor stalls, two outdoor arenas, concessions and restroom facilities
While their active season runs from mid-October through May, they welcome visitors year-round.
On the weekends, Rancho Rio offers family-friendly amenities, a large variety of food vendors and many merchants selling all kinds of stuff. There is a lot to see and do. I recommend that parents and grandparents should consider bringing the kids out here to get out of the Valley and experience the horse culture. Check out the ropers and horses, grab a bit to eat and enjoy the great weather.
